Fort Mose is known as the birth place of freedom for many. Tucked away in the marshes of North Saint Augustine this site is one of the most important places in history as it was the first pioneer black community in what is now the United States. More than a century before the Emancipation Proclamation was read by [...]
Viewing the oldest city lit up by a million lights on Friday managed to get me in the holiday spirit quick. Not only did the lights tour promote a festive atmosphere but an even deeper appreciation for our city and its unique charm. The building that stood out the most was the Lightner Museum or [...]
Saint Augustine’s thriving community and year-round good weather attracted not only visitors but many artists to our area in the 1930’s through the 1950’s. Some of these artists are famous today with original paintings worth thousands and some remain relatively known. The city became the largest art colony in the South with the efforts of [...]
The Changing of the Guard brought to us by the City of Saint Augustine and the San Agustin Garrison offers all of us a step back into our rich history (Ancient History)! 1740 was the year where soldiers guarding the Saint Augustine are dismissed for the night, but not before their replacements arrive and are ready to take [...]

Not only are the grounds magnificent with a memorable view of the great cross rising two hundred and eight feet above the marshes of the Matanzas River, this location offers a significant amount of history involving Saint Augustine; in fact, it was the exact site that Saint Augustine was founded in 1565. The Mission De Dios [...]
What Happened to the Cross and the Sword? Named Florida’s state play in 1973 by the Florida Legislature the Cross and the Sword was an attraction many looked forward to. The play was originally created in honor of Saint Augustine’s 400th year birthday celebration in 1965. It is a reenactment of the founding of Saint [...]

In the same year the Saint Augustine Amphitheatre opened on Anastasia Island and became [...]
I recently toured the homes in this museum and was amazed at the originality of each house and the collection of antiques that were in them. I enjoyed seeing each of them. I especially enjoyed viewing the art work in the Rose House and the Spear House. The people who explained the self-guided map of [...]
I met a lady at a community event who works with the Saint Augustine Historical Society and was reminded that the only public library in Saint Augustine at one time was still open to the public even after the much larger public library was built on the corner of North Ponce de Leon Blvd. Not only [...]
