New Years Events in Saint Augustine
New Years Eve is always an exciting day for the old city with visitors everywhere getting in the last bit of vacation before going back to work and school. The city is still aglow with its million tiny white lights in the historic district. The inns are full of people showing that last bit of holiday spirit and joy. Saint George is packed with shoppers and the Bayfront is also heavy with foot traffic. Many are wondering, “What are the best events on New Years here in the oldest city” and “What do we not want to miss”?
There are several events taking place on this festive day in Saint Augustine; including a firework blast and a balloon drop to bring in the New Year right. Beginning at noon on New Years Eve Ponte Vedra’s Cultural Center is hosting a Noon Balloon Drop. Snap, crackle and pop in their bubble-wrap room as you jump to the jingles of the house band tunes. Create a hilarious hat with eyes that wiggle or make party masks that will make everyone giggle. It all takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, 50 Executive Way. Admission is $ 5 per person or $15 for a family of four.
Another fabulous event occurs later in the day as Saint Augustine presents its annual Beach Blast! Kick off 2012 in seaside style at this special St. Augustine Beach event! Enjoy a blast of flavor, icy sculptures, and fireworks when several of St. Augustine’s favorite restaurants serve up chili for tasting and judging at the Fire and Ice Chili Cook-off from 4 to 8 p.m. After things cool off from the chili – the Fireworks begin at 8:30 p.m. This display will delight visitors and help usher in the New Year! Admission is free. The Beach Blast takes place at St. Johns County Fishing Pier and Pavilion, 350 A1A Beach Boulevard in St. Augustine Beach. For more information, call 904-829-5681.
The Black Raven Pirate Ship is offering a more private celebration for adults participating in the final count down. Board the Black Raven for a New Years Celebration you won’t forget! On this piratical adventure there will be music and a cash bar but, keep an eye on the horizon as the Black Raven sails for the enemy’s camp. There may be sword fights and canon fire! Tickets are $50 per person (adults only) and include food, champagne toast, and pirate show.
Departs form St. Augustine Municipal Marina , 111 Avenida Menendez, St. Augustine, FL at 10:15 pm and returns at 12:30 am on January 1st 2012.
